A life-long project.
There’s something ritualistically special about a library. It’s an avenue toward experiencing the stories it contains, sure, but way more than that, it’s about the experience of being there, with the objects that contain those stories. The diary library that will grow out of Vulnerable is especially meaningful in this sense, because all its contents are not only one-of-a-kind, but, at least during the time they were written, were of tremendous significance to their owners. They hold stories, secrets, slices of souls. Things like that are meant to be held, not forgotten.
An exploration of what we all share, and yet is entirely our own. A journey through vignettes of selves as snapshots in time.
As a photographer, capturing the essence of individual personas has been core to my practice. While the lens allows tremendous subtlety in the implication of what’s underneath the surface of a subject, at the end of the day, in a photograph, you are dealing with appearances.
